Albany is located on the South Coast of Western Australia. A 4 1/2 Hour drive from Perth makes this area a popular place to visit for short and long trips. The rainbow coast and has some of the most spectacular and diverse spots is Australia.
Albany is known for clean white sandy beaches and rolling, smooth rocky fishing spots. There’s plenty of spots for a swim in the clear water during a holiday.
Middleton Beach is one of the most popular spots to visit. Pine trees and grass picnic areas overlook a sheltered beach with island mountains jutting from the sea. A scenic drive around the headland showcases Middlton beach and the port. Middleton Beach has lifeguards and a small jetty. The park overlooking the beach has cold showers, picnic tables, BBq’s, toilets, a cafe and a playground.
Emu Point is a popular place for a swim and a fish. The beach is protected and has a enclosed swimming area, BBq’s, picnic tables, showers, a cafe, a playground, toilets and cold showers.
Flora and Fauna
Albany is home to some unique flora and fauna. The Bibbulmun track winds it’s way along some of the most pristine and breathtaking coastlines and through giant Jarrah forests. The walk can be broken up into several short trips and ends in Albany.
Wildflower season is during the months of August, September, October, November and December. Guid books can be found at the Albany tourist information centre. Unique plants found within the area of the Rainbow coast are found nowhere else in the world.
The Porongurup National Park is located short drive from Albany and have some short day hikes. A 23km scenic drive is popular drive to around the entire ranges. There’s also a short drive that offers impressive views of the Stirling Ranges.
The Stirling Ranges are 1000km above sea level! During some parts of the year snow falls on the mountain range, during other times a mist will roll around the mountain, incasing them in a scenic natural show. The ranges have walk trails and scenic drives, check wether conditions before at Bureau Of Meteorology.
The City of Albany
Albany has a population of just over 30,000 people. The city has modern convinces, markets, shops, restaurants, super markets and cafes. The city also has most services of any major town or city including a regional hospital, doctors practices, taxi services and bus services.
The main street is rich in history and has many novelty shops and stalls. Cafes and restaurants provide some outstanding Albany food.
